This role drives the evolution of the SCM platform by delivering innovative, value-added core services and automation that streamline and elevate the software delivery lifecycle.

As a Principal Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Enterprise Technology - ENG Services & Platform team, you provide expertise and engineering excellence as an integral part of an agile team to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. Leverage your advanced technical capabilities and collaborate with colleagues across the organization to drive best-in-class outcomes across various technologies to support one or more of the firm’s portfolios.

You will own the vision, strategy, and execution for building and evolving core services and automation on top of the SCM platform, while providing people leadership through hiring, developing, and mentoring a diverse, high-performing engineering team. You will lead the design and delivery of release management, CI/CD services, deployment automation, testing, gate enforcement, and production change orchestration, and you will build supplementary capabilities such as automated deployments on commit, integrated testing, compliance gates, and end-to-end release workflows. Throughout, you will drive continuous improvement in developer experience, software quality, and delivery efficiency.
 

Job responsibilities

  • Partner with platform, product, and operations teams to deliver cohesive, value-added solutions.
  • Develops secure and high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
  • Architects and governs agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows (using enterprise-authorized tools within the work environment) to improve delivery speed, code quality, and operational outcomes at scale (e.g., AI-driven PR review assistance, test generation/maintenance, release readiness checks, incident triage and root-cause acceleration), while defining guardrails for validation, security, resiliency, and reuse across teams.
  • Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation at scale.
  • Serves as the function’s go-to subject matter expert
  • Sets direction and provide hands-on leadership for the design, development, and maintenance of core engineering services that extend the SCM platform.
  • Drives innovation in SDLC automation, ensuring seamless integration with platform, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Establishes and enforce engineering best practices and standards for reliability, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Build's and maintain automation frameworks and reusable components to accelerate software delivery.
  • Leads incident response, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement for core services.
  • Represents the function in cross-team forums, drive alignment, and communicate progress to senior stakeholders.
     

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 7+ years applied experience
  • Demonstrated experience designing and leading adoption of agentic AI-enabled development practices (using enterprise-authorized tools within the work environment) across teams, including setting standards for human-in-the-loop validation, auditability/traceability of changes, and secure handling of sensitive data.
    Strong understanding of responsible AI use and control expectations in engineering workflows, including security/resiliency implications, data sensitivity, and risk-based governance; ability to influence senior technical leaders on safe scaling patterns and reuse.
  • Experience applying expertise and new methods to determine solutions for complex technology problems in one or more technical disciplines
  • Experience leading a product as a Product Owner or Product Manager
  • Proven experience leading and developing engineering teams responsible for SDLC automation, CI/CD, or developer platform services.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing, building, and scaling core services that support software delivery at scale.
  • Demonstrated success in driving innovation and continuous improvement in developer productivity and software quality.
  • Ability to set vision, drive execution, and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Deep understanding of release management, CI/CD, testing automation, and compliance gates.
     
 
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
 
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems and modern SDLC tooling.
  • Deep knowledge of software quality, compliance, and operational best practices.
  • Experience implementing observability, SLO/SLA frameworks, and resilience testing for engineering services.
  • Strong collaboration skills with platform, security, and application engineering teams.
  • Executive presence and ability to communicate complex technical topics to senior leadership.
